THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will ink an agreement tomorrow with the Chinese General Medical Hospital to provide free hospitalization to the agency’s traffic enforcers.

This was announced by Chairman Francis Tolentino during an inspection he made of all field traffic personnel at the Fort Bonifacio parade grounds over the weekend and during today’s flag raising ceremony held at the MMDA grounds in Makati City.

“In addition to the free hospitalization, we will try to give all benefits due our traffic enforcers to motivate them to perform their duties well, with integrity and honesty,” Tolentino said.  “I have instructed our legal department to speed up the reconsideration we are asking from the Commission on Audit regarding this matter.”

Further, the agency will institutionalize a merit system which will evaluate the performance of the more than 2,000 traffic enforcers deployed throughout the metropolis.

A committee will be organized to screen and select exemplary traffic personnel of good moral standing who will be awarded as traffic enforcer/s of the week, half year, and whole year accordingly.

A certificate of commendation will be given to the traffic enforcer/s of the week while free college education awaits the eldest child of the traffic enforcer of the half year.

An enforcer who wins the award for two consecutive years will be entitled to a house and lot at the MMDA Housing Project in Carmona, Cavite.

“Our traffic enforcers deserve to be treated with respect.  Their efforts should be recognized as they work under hazardous conditions on a daily basis.  As front liners, they represent the agency to the public and their actions reflect not only their unit but the entire MMDA,” Tolentino stressed.  “They should always embody the MMDA motto of Marangal Matapat Disiplinado Ako.  (I am honorable, honest, and disciplined) ”
