"TO ERR is human, to forgive divine."

With that famous line and now that Assistant Secretary Carmen “Mai” Mislang has officially apologized for her controversial remarks on Twitter regarding Vietnam, its about time for us Filipinos to move on and focus on better things and not fan the flames of disgust any further.

“We should take into consideration the fact that human beings are far from perfect. All of us are bound to make mistakes," said Ismael Amigo, national president of 1st-APLUMA (Unang Alyansang Pag-asa ng Lahi't Uring Mamamahayag-Manggagawa).

Amigo emphasized that Mislang has already apologized for her action and has been reprimanded by her superiors at Malacanang so there is nothing more in it, no need to elevate the matter into an international or national issue.

“I believe that Mislang has learned her lesson now that she’s being bombarded by criticisms,” Amigo, a syndicated community newspaper columnist, pointed out.

Also, Amigo also added that there’s no point in linking Mislang’s mistake to President Aquino’s capability to run the government.

For its part, Amigo also commended Vietnam for keeping an open mind amid the controversy.

“The Vietnamese people did not make any negative comment on the issue despite being the offended party and we should take the cue from them against fanning the flames of disgust especially on matters that borders on personal opinions," Amigo added.
