OUR group, Unang Alyansa ng Pambansa at Pamprobinsiyang Lupon at Ugnayan ng Makatao at Maka-Diyos na mga Mamamahayag or 1ST-APLUMA, may be composed of provincial journalists and writers but we are not just pushing for our own welfare.
As journalists, we have been bestowed the responsibility to guard the welfare of the general public, look out for their rights and interests.
The fourth estate’s responsibility, aside from delivering the news to the public, is to make sure that public’s welfare is not being put in peril by persons in power.
Also, we are also out to provide the public an avenue where they can air their grievances against the government and some of its officials.
For the record, we were the first group to condemn lawmakers belonging to 14th Congress for their failure to pass the
Freedom of Information Act of 2009, calling their act as a “treachery of the highest level” inflicted on the Filipino people.
1st-APLUMA has been pushing for the passage of the bill since it would be a great significance to President Benigno Aquino III’s campaign against corruption.
The law, if acted upon, would give the people the right to information and government transactions affecting public interests.

Last June 17, 1st-APLUMA condemned the Toll Regulatory Board's (TRB) plan to implement a 320-percent increase in toll fees at the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in a press statement, part of which is as follows:
“There’s no other way to look at it but this. The TRB allowed the increase on the first day of Noynoy’s administration just to put the new administration in a bad light in the eyes of the public.
1st-APLUMA also called on Noynoy to immediately review the TRB order to ease the burden of the riding public and private motorists who will bear the brunt of the increase.
“Noynoy should take this into consideration as soon as possible as thousands of motorists and commuters plying the southern part of Luzon will surely be burdened by this increase,” 1st-APLUMA said.”

With 1st-APLUMA now all systems running, the public will be assured that we will use all our resources to safeguard their rights, welfare and privileges.
